You’re still legally responsible for what you owe.

For example, if we successfully delete a Capital One charge-off from your credit report, Capital One will still have record of your balance internally. If you apply for another card with them, they will deny you based on that unpaid debt.

We strongly recommend paying original creditors to avoid lawsuits, wage garnishment, or account freezes, and to qualify with them again in the future.

For third-party collectors, we don’t suggest paying during the dispute process — they must prove they legally own the debt first.
